Nebraska Impresses 4-Star Florida Defensive Back Markeith Williams

June 13, 2021

This weekend the Huskers hosted six official visitors. Defense was definitely the priority with four of the six prospects coming from that side of the ball. One of the more versatile defenders that was in Lincoln this weekend was Markeith Williams. The Huskers can see him playing any position in the secondary.

“The visit was great,” Williams said. “I found out more history behind Nebraska. I’ve also now gotten even closer with the coaching staff. It was a great visit overall. They also have a great fan base.”

Sometimes things line up well for a recruit and their player host. Often times the pair will hit it off during the trip. Williams knew that he and his player host, cornerback Tamon Lynum, would have a great time together. The pair grew up together so they know each other well. Lynum had been telling Williams all about Nebraska before his trip.

He showed Williams that Nebraska is a great place to be. Lynum also helped shatter the stereotype that Nebraska is nothing but cornfields everywhere. Williams was also able to hang out with Quinton Newsome and meet the other official visitors which he enjoyed. He’s had a longstanding relationship with defensive backs coach Travis Fisher. So, it felt like the pair were just catching up all weekend.

“I met Coach Fish my freshman year,” Williams said. “So. we just caught up on a couple things through the trip.”

Last week, the steak got rave reviews from all the official visitors. There was a lot of family time to relax and eat as Williams told me. The best thing he ate all weekend was the chicken alfredo. Beyond the food the facilities and the technology at Nebraska stood out for Williams. He likes the plans he saw for the football facility. Williams also thought the attention to detail and science behind what is going on with athletes’ bodies was eye-catching.

Williams is looking for the best overall fit for him in college. He wants a school that is going to make him a better person on and off the field. Last weekend he visited Florida, next weekend is Ohio State. Those are his top schools along with Nebraska and a decision could come this summer.
