Nebraska Recruiting: 2022 Linebacker Commit Ernest Hausmann Enjoys Future Home

June 06, 2021

Recruiting never stops and it’s easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.

The Huskers have two commitments so far for the 2022 recruiting class. One of them, Columbus linebacker Ernest Hausmann, plans to be a fixture at Husker events this summer. Hausmann is a commit from in-state so it is hard to believe that he hadn’t met the coaching staff before Friday night. That’s what he was really excited to do during his visit to Lincoln.

“It was really awesome,” Hausmann said. “It was really cool to get down there and see some guys personally. I met most of the coaches and I was really excited about that. I met a lot of the recruits that were on their official visit that day. We hung out with other players and we ate with them. We also got to go down to Friday Night Lights and see some players compete out there so it was really cool experience.”

It’s a unique situation that this week was the first time he’s met with the coaches in person even though he is a commit. It turns out that meeting them in person was a lot like talking to them on Zoom or on the phone.

“You know, they’re just 100% real with you,” Hausmann said. “They’re exactly the people you see them as on Zoom. There’s nothing fake about them over the phone call. I was really excited about that. Meeting them was exactly how they were before. That was really cool. This is a really good group of guys and they love their team. I love that about them.”

One of the things that Hausmann has mentioned previously is that he will be an active peer recruiter. I saw him making the rounds on Friday night talking to all the official visitors that were in town. He thinks all the guys he talked to were enjoying their official visits. As for his own official, he is locked in for June 18 weekend.

“I’m looking forward to getting a nice extended period of time with the coaches and players,” Hausmann said. “Even being down there for a few hours this weekend makes me want to be there for longer. I want to get to know people better and just start building those relationships.”

Hausmann is excited to continue working to get better this summer. As he gets ready for his senior year he is ready to make the switch to inside linebacker which is where he will play at Nebraska.

“I just want to perfect and hone in on the technique with switching positions to inside linebacker,” Hausmann said. “There’s a lot of things I have to learn. I’m trying to get that mastered.

“It is going to be busy, but I’m really looking forward to it. It is a big summer for me. Then I’ll keep heading down to Lincoln just meet more guys. It’ll be really fun.
