It’s a clean sweep of the top five players in the state of Nebraska for 2019.
On Saturday, Nebraska got some huge news on the recruiting front when 4-star tight end Chris Hickman from Omaha Burke announced that he was joining the 2019 recruiting class. Hickman announced his decision via Twitter.
First off I’d like to thank god, my family, friends, teachers & coaches for all their support. After taking my time to decide what school that I feel is the best fit for me, I would like to announce I am committing to the University of Nebraska pic.twitter.com/ZdCx6XihWO

The versatile athlete, who stands at 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds, has been a force for his No. 1 ranked Burke Bulldogs this season. That included a great performance against Omaha North where he caught a touchdown pass early in the game in front of Nebraska assistant coaches Barrett Ruud and Sean Beckton.

With the commitment of Hickman, Nebraska now has verbal commitments from the top five players in the state. The Burke star joins Garrett Nelson, Garrett Snodgrass, Ethan Piper and his teammate Nick Henrich as part of the 2019 recruiting class. When Scott Frost had his introductory press conference back in December, he made it clear that he wanted to keep the best players in the state home.
"When I was growing up, every kid in the state of Nebraska dreamed about running out here on this stadium, on this field wearing a red ‘N’ on their helmet," Frost said at the time. "There’s too many kids from this state right now playing at other schools and we are going to do everything we can to make sure that those kids are here.”
Ruud and Beckton deserve a lot of credit for building a relationship in short order with the Omaha native who could end up playing either side of the ball in college. Hickman is the 17th commitment for the class of 2019 for Nebraska. The Huskers beat out Iowa, Oregon, LSU and Ole Miss for his commitment.
