Recruiting never stops and it’s easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Hail Varsity recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.
Let’s just say we’ve been on Cameron Lenhardt commitment watch for some time around here. The 4-star edge visited Nebraska in late June, leaving impressed by what he had seen in Lincoln.
“I will say something that stood out the most was just the coaching staff,” Lenhardt told Hail Varsity following the visit. They’re a great group of guys and great men. It’s somewhere I can picture myself like being. Plus, coach (Scott) Frost is a cool dude.”
Since then, Nebraska has appeared to be the favorite for Lenhardt’s commitment. His top three programs are Nebraska, Penn State and Michigan State. He shared that update on July 8. Things got a little interesting when fellow edge Ashley Williams committed to the Huskers—and then de-committed—but it never changed what was being said about Nebraska’s interest in Lenhardt and his interest in Nebraska.
Either way, the 2023 prospect is preparing for his senior season with IMG Academy and recently received some big news. IMG Academy head coach Billy Miller tweeted that Lenhardt has been named a captain for the season ahead.

Nebraska has a lot of leadership at the edge spot on its roster already, so Lenhardt would certainly fit in with the mentality of players like Garrett Nelson and Ochaun Mathis. Even if both of those players moved on from Nebraska following the 2022 season, Lenhardt would be able to pick up where they left off on the leadership front.
For what it’s worth, Nebraska fans could hypothetically see Lenhardt in person this fall if they wanted to make the drive to De Smet Jesuit in St. Louis, Missouri. IMG Academy faces the Spartans on Friday, Sept. 2. Kickoff is scheduled between the two for 7 p.m. CT. For Husker fans who want to check the game out but don’t want to make the drive, a live stream of the game will also be available.
It feels like Lenhardt could commit at any point now. It’s felt that way for awhile though. One thing is for certain: this is still a commitment that Husker fans will want to keep an eye on.
Until then, the waiting game continues.
