Nebraska Recruiting: Canadian Lineman Recaps Trip to Lincoln

November 04, 2019

Recruiting never stops and it's easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.

Even though the Huskers had an away game this weekend, they still found a way to sneak in an unofficial visitor. Lineman Leif Magnuson came through Lincoln on Sunday after taking in a game day visit to Kansas. The Canadian was making the rounds with his mom and his strength coach JC Moreau.

Magnuson, who is from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in Canada, has seen his recruitment take off recently. He holds 13 offers total after picking up a handful in the last 10 days. He doesn’t yet hold a scholarship from Nebraska but had a great time on his brief trip to Lincoln.

“It was a great place,” Magnuson told Hail Varsity. “The staff was friendly. I got measured up every which way by {Director of Performance Nutrition] Dave Ellis. I didn’t get an offer right now but they said they’d be in touch. I appreciate the invite either way. It’s an honor just to be considered. [I am] always grateful for any and all interest.”

The Canadian lineman thought it was super cool to get measured like that. He’s confident in his play so he knows his evaluation goes beyond the metrics. He mostly spent time with Ellis and defensive coordinator Erik Chinander who came into the facility for his visit. He got the tour of the facilities but was impressed with Chinander and called him a “great guy” who he got along well with.

Magnuson will focus on official visits from here on out. It is possible he will visit Indiana on Nov. 23 for the Hoosiers’ game against Michigan. There is likely a top three coming out from him next week as well. And he has some clear criteria he is looking at as he sorts out that top three.

“Location to home,” he said. “Also, education and networking after graduation. I also want coaches that care about each player not just starters.”

Nebraska is looking at him to play defensive line. Magnuson will sign in December with his school of choice so any new offers need to come fairly soon to get in the game. He will be an interesting recruit to follow in the run to the early signing period.
