Nebraska Recruiting: Could Neville Provide Fireworks for Huskers?

July 17, 2020

Recruiting never stops and it’s easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.

After landing six commitments in the last two months, could the Huskers start July off with a bang? The coaching staff and Nebraska fans certainly hope so. Latrell Neville‍, a 4-star (HV Rating: 91.7) wide receiver from Texas, is set to make his college announcement on July 4. Neville was committed to Virginia Tech but backed off the pledge on June 6.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, the Texan would give the Huskers a second taller receiver in this recruiting class. Neville would pair with current Husker commit Shawn Hardy who stands at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds.

Neville has been a top target of offensive coordinator Matt Lubick’s since arriving in Lincoln. Neville’s size and speed combination have made him a coveted recruit. He’s racked up over 40 offers.

Lubick has been a positive for the Huskers on the recruiting trail early on in his tenure. Hardy, who was his first wideout commit at Nebraska, is fired up to play for him.

“I think he’s a great coach,” Hardy said. “I’ve looked back at his history. He’s done a lot over the years. I talk to him every day so we have a great relationship. I feel comfortable with him and I honestly can’t wait to play under him.”

If the Huskers can land Neville to go along with Hardy, the makeover in the wide receiver room would be well on its way. The jury is still out on 2019 signees Jamie Nance and Demariyon Houston, although each will get the chance to get fresh eyes on them with Lubick at the helm of the offense.

The Huskers signed a big-time wide receiver haul in 2020. The team landed five players at the position with four being 4-star recruits. We’ll find out soon if Neville will be joining the group that is starting to take shape after a lot of turmoil at the position in recent years.
