Over the last week the Huskers have made a handful of new scholarship offers. They were all notable but the offer to Lincoln Southeast 2023 offensive lineman Gunnar Gottula was significant.
After a great talk with @coach_frost, I’m excited to announce I’ve earned an offer to the University of Nebraska 🌽 pic.twitter.com/Z9ugADC0Pr

For Gottula (6-6, 250), the Huskers were his third Power Five scholarship offer. Iowa State and Kansas State had already offered him a scholarship. The offer came from Nebraska after he performed well at the Friday Night Lights camp. In-state recruiting coordinator Barrett Rudd told him that the team wanted him to attend the camp just so they could see him in person again and see how he moves.
“After the end of camp, Coach Austin had me wait aside with him,” Gottula said. “Then Scott Frost came over and I talked to him briefly and they offered me. I was just really excited. It was an exciting moment for me. I was pretty happy.”
Gottula’s parents were very proud of him for receiving the Nebraska scholarship offer. It was a big week for Lincoln Southeast players since his teammate Jake Appleget also was offered by Nebraska last week. The two were able to talk about the feeling of being offered by the home state school.
“Yeah, we had practice today and we talked about it a little bit,” Gottula said. “It’s pretty cool that we both were able to get that offer.”
After the camp at Nebraska, the lineman went up to Notre Dame for their camp. He had fun at the camp and thought that Notre Dame was a cool place. He also plans to hit the Northwestern camp on June 24. Aside from that there are not plans to do camps this summer.
Gottula will be back in Lincoln for the 7-on-7 tournament this weekend. He’ll be cheering on his team and take an unofficial visit to check out the Huskers. Gottula would get out there and run some routes but his dad coaches his high school team and wouldn’t let him line up at tight end for the tournament. It’s early for the prospect but he knows what he is looking for in a future school.
“Just a coaching staff that I have a really good relationship and I enjoy being around,” Gottula said. Having a culture that’s set and that I fit well with. Then obviously a good academics part of the school.”
