Nebraska Recruiting: Huskers Cast Wide Net With Momentum of Coleman Decision

October 23, 2022

Nebraska reeled in its biggest catch of the recruiting season on Saturday afternoon when Malachi Coleman committed. The No. 58-ranked prospect in the country, according to Rivals, gave Nebraska a lift to No. 38 in the Class of 2023 standings, according to 247Sports.

This gives the Huskers momentum on the recruiting trail after nearly three months without a new commitment. Nebraska is still among the finalists for 3-star offensive lineman Jr Sia of Utah, 3-star cornerback Ryan Robinson Jr. of Louisiana and 3-star running back Sergio Snider of Texas. There’s also the possibility 4-star edge rusher Cameron Lenhardt of IMG Academy commits to Nebraska again after decommiting in September.

Nebraska extended a scholarship offer to Jediyah Willoughby of Fairburn, Georgia. He’s a high school senior athlete who runs a 4.7 40 as a receiver and safety. The Huskers’ offer was his first Power 5 scholarship offer. St. Louis area senior Josh Gregory gained a scholarship offer from Nebraska this last week. The 6-foot-7 offensive lineman committed to Cincinnati back in June.

Recruiting momentum could also carry into Nebraska’s 2024 classes and beyond. That’s where the majority of last week’s Nebraska offer spree occurred. Even more offers came to light after the initial dozen players announced they received scholarship offers from Nebraska earlier last week.

Sacramento linebacker Kingston Lopa, a 3-star junior with plenty of interest among Pac-12 schools, received a scholarship offer from Nebraska. Meanwhile, in Georgia, the Huskers liked Christian Peterson enough to offer him a scholarship. He is a physical, unranked safety shy of 6 feet but with offers from Duke, Maryland and Boston College.

The Huskers are the latest to offer 3-star offensive tackle Bradley Smith from Georgia. He’s a 6-foot-3 junior and a teammate of Landon Merritt, who Nebraska also recently offered. Junior Amir Glenn of Langston Hughes High School in Fairburn, Georgia, a teammate of the aforementioned Willoughby, received a Nebraska offer. He’s a physical 6-foot-3 defensive lineman with offers from Boston College and Georgia Tech.

Cutter Boley, a 4-star sophomore quarterback from Lexington, Kentucky, received an offer from Nebraska. He’s a pro-style quarterback with offers from Michigan and Alabama in addition to his hometown Wildcats. He visited Penn State this weekend and returned to Kentucky with an offer from the Nittany Lions.

Nebraska is hitting the junior college ranks. The Huskers also offered Hutchinson CC defensive tackle Jerrell Boykins Jr. and linebacker Terry Kirksey. Boykins has 13 tackles in his first year with the Blue Dragons since transferring from Louisiana Tech. Kirksey has 43 tackles and a fumble recovery this year. Nebraska also offered their college teammates Nikko Taylor and Dez’mond Schuster. The Huskers also offered a pair of Coffeyville CC standouts. One was 6-foot-5 sophomore Hampton, Georgia, native Nnanna Anywanu, who has 15 tackles this year. The other is sophomore corner Amir Renwick of Baltimore. Renwick has 56 tackles, nine PBUs and two interceptions. Those are in addition to the nearby prospects at Iowa Western CC the Huskers are still recruiting.
