Recruiting never stops and it's easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.
The Huskers face off against the Iowa Hawkeyes every season on the football field. I’ll leave it to someone else to debate if it is indeed a rivalry but if Nebraska has anything to say about it, there will certainly be a rivalry between the two schools on the recruiting trial.
Just taking a look at the prospects who were on campus for the Big Red BBQ and participated in the Friday Night Lights camps, there are quite a few Iowans that the Huskers are recruiting or keeping tabs on. There were 35 Iowa natives who participated in total between the two Friday Night Lights camps.
Here are the prospects from Iowa that took unofficial visits last week:
- 2021 OLB TJ Bollers
- 2021 OL Henry Lutovsky
- 2021 DL Jeffrey Bowie
- 2021 ILB Seth Malcom
The prospects from Iowa are taking notice of Nebraska’s increased efforts in the Hawkeye State. Henry Lutovsky, a 2021 offensive lineman target, spoke to Hail Varsity about that last week.
“I noticed there were a few [athletes from Iowa],” he said. “I think it just helps show that Coach Frost and his staff are confident that they can get players to go over and play for them instead of Iowa or ISU.”
Don’t discount what Matt Campbell’s program in Ames has become. Campbell has gotten Iowa State program going despite constant rumors of a bigger school poaching him at some point. We know that the Huskers are currently locked in a big battle with the Cyclones for outside linebacker Blaise Gunnerson.
Major 2021 outside linebacker target TJ Bollers also noticed there were fellow Iowans around at the BBQ. He noted that it seemed like a lot of them were from the 2021 class.
You’ll notice that a lot of the players that Nebraska is looking at from Iowa play in the trenches. It’s hard to argue that the Hawkeyes have not been better in recent years in the trenches so going across the border and grabbing more of those players seems like a sound plan.
