Recruiting never stops and it's easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.
During the first few days of the contact period, the Nebraska coaching staff has been active with scholarship offers to 2020 prospects. That by itself is not completely surprising since it makes sense that the staff spent time during the holiday break watching film of prospects and lining up the new big board.
Within those offers comes this nugget: Nebraska has now offered scholarships to five 2020 Alabama verbal commits. Four came on Monday and every prospect is from the state of Alabama:
- 4-star wide receiver Dazalin Worsham
- 4-star defensive tackle Jayson Jones
- 4-star defensive back Malachi Moore
- 4-star linebacker Jackson Bratton
- 3-star defensive tackle Jah-Marien Latham
Of that group, Jones was the only one who held an offer from Nebraska prior to this week and he has stated that he will take an official visit to Lincoln. Based on early intel, Latham and Bratton will likely make their way to Lincoln as well.
What, if anything, does this mean? The Huskers’ staff really likes the state of Alabama. They have continued to increase their efforts in the state since taking over in Lincoln. Right now, the only commit for the class of 2020, quarterback Logan Smothers, is from Alabama. Having a quarterback helping recruit the state will be especially helpful.
The other thing that comes to mind is more of a big picture thought. Nebraska is putting the finishing touches on a successful recruiting class that will likely be ranked anywhere from No. 15-21 when all of the dust settles. That’s coming off a 4-8 season. What happens if the pundits are correct on their way-too-early predictions and Nebraska wins 8-10 games in 2019 and Adrian Martinez finds himself floating around the Heisman discussion?
That type of season could produce a bump in the team’s recruiting profile that is needed to be able to go to battle with the likes of Nick Saban on a regular basis.
