Recruiting never stops and it’s easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.
The Nebraska coaching staff is out around the country making visits to high schools during the evaluation period. The staff has made a point to swing by schools in the southeast over the last week. One of the schools that tight ends coach Sean Beckton stopped by was Eatonton Putnam County in Georgia.
That’s the home of 3-star defensive back Jalon Kilgore. The defender (6-2, 195) has over 20 scholarship offers. There was something about the Huskers’ offer that was unique.

Nebraska is the only school so far to offer Kilgore as a wide receiver.
“It was great,” Kilgore said. “I didn’t honestly didn’t think they were going to offer me as a wide receiver. That was good. That was my first offer for receiver so that was great.”
Kilgore does play on both sides of the ball for his high school. He had 88 tackles, eight pass breakups and four forced fumbles on defense. He racked up 37 catches for 921 yards and 11 touchdowns on offense. Kilgore said Beckton likes his body control and how well he tracks the ball in the air.
“It’d be great to get the chance to play wide receiver in college,” Kilgore said. “That’s why I always kept it opportunity open, I put it on my film, just to let the coaches know I can play both sides. So where ever the best place is or wherever God want me to be that’s where I’m goint to go.”
Kilgore thinks that playing on both sides of the ball really helps his game overall. He gets to use his ball skills as a wide receiver and defensive back. He also really likes the idea of staying active and helping his team anyway that he can.
His relationship is pretty new with Nebraska but is growing quickly. He hadn’t heard much from Nebraska before getting the offer. Now he is in frequent contact with the staff since getting offered by the program. Kilgore has taken many visits during the last few months. He visited Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Florida, and Oklahoma this spring.
“I’m going to try to get to some more places this summer,” Kilgore said. “Just to check out and meet the coaches in person. See how the towns are and stuff like that. Wherever my future school is located, it really doesn’t matter. Whatever is the best place and the best fits me that’s where I’m going to end up going.”
Kilgore has been talking to Nebraska about coming out for a visit this summer but nothing is set up yet. He does have a pair of official visits set for the summer already. The Georgia native will visit Oklahoma June 3-5 and South Carolina June 10-12. The clock is ticking for the Huskers to set up that official. Kilgore intends to use all five official visits this summer with the plan to commit in August.
