Nebraska Recruiting: Huskers Send Official Offers to 2021 Recruits

Recruiting never stops and it’s easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.

We have officially flipped the calendar to August. While that means football is (maybe) just around the corner, it also means programs are able to send out official offers to prospects.

The Huskers have been on the high end of scholarship offers under Coach Scott Frost. Nebraska has offered over 300 players for the 2021 recruiting cycle. That’s just one part of the equation though. Official offers are different than verbal scholarship offers. Every year there are players who had verbal offers from varios programs that don’t get official offers. The official offer list indicates who is still a target for the school you follow.

All the Huskers’ verbal commitments received official offers from the team as expected.

A number of top targets posted their official offers from Nebraska too. I’m going to highlight a few but there are many more that went out. The Huskers don’t have a defensive end in the class just yet, so one name to know is Michigan defensive end Ru’Quan Buckley.

Pennsylvania defensive end Robert Jackson is another to know for the defensive line.

The Huskers are after a second running back in the recruiting class. Texas 4-star Tavierre Dunlap would make a great addition.

There is one more step though in the journey of a prospect actually getting to their next school. Schools need to send prospects a letter of intent to sign ahead of National Signing Day. Once that letter is signed, a player is officially heading to their new school. There is typically a little bit of drama that accompanies that day with the letters of intent.

Schools do not send letters to players if there is uncertainty about whether or not they will qualify. The reason for that makes sense. If a player signs and doesn’t qualify, they still count against the team’s number for that recruiting class. That happened with Nebraska and Desmond Bland a couple of cycles back.

The act of sending out official offers is mostly ceremonial now than anything. It does give schools a chance to show off their creative departments. It’s one more step in the journey of how a recruit actually becomes an enrollee.
