Recruiting never stops and it’s easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.
Soon the floodgates will completely open for name, image and likeness across the college football landscape. Currently, many states are adopting their own legislation around the topic. The NCAA has had to meet with Congress several times about the issue. In my opinion, thatās most because the NCAA dragged its feet for so long. The group is being forced into some type of action.
When all of this first came down there was intense focus on the potential for cash payments for players. Essentially that the door would be open for sponsorships for college players like we see in the professional ranks. That is going to be a major component of this looming era. But several other pretty neat things will happen. An example of that would be the branding the Huskers are doing with players. Building brands for guys like Cam Jurgens (Beef Jurgy) and Cam Taylor-Britt (Cam Juice) with logos has been cool to see.
Another thing has popped up. The new Athletes Unfiltered podcast with Adrian Martinez.

Martinez is uniquely qualified to be the first player Iāve seen to do something like this. Weāve noted since his recruitment that he is mature. Weāve seen many examples of this over his time at Nebraska, too. Martinez is also in a fishbowl that very few can understand. Being the starting quarterback at Nebraska gives him a different point of view. Heās bound to have some really good insight which should produce good content. Plus, this is a tremendous opportunity for him to build his brand and get his point of view told.
Remember last March when Nebraska announced its groundbreaking Ready Now Program. The school is doing that in partnership with Opendorse. The Huskers wanted to be ready to hit the ground running. Coach Scott Frost explained it when the program was announced.
“We believe social media is at the core of this next frontier for player development,” Frost said. “There’s an opportunity for our players that transcends compensation today ā we as coaches and leaders can provide our student-athletes the tools to maximize their future value while they’re competing for the University of Nebraska.ā
There will end up being much more that goes into what Nebraska provides for its student-athletes beyond compensation. Branding and education will end up being at the forefront of what Nebraska does. In the end this will all help with the lifeblood of college athletics: recruiting. Showing potential players the programs Nebraska has in place will help set it apart from other schools. Itās an exciting time for student-athletes and the sky is limit on what can be done.
