Recruiting never stops and it’s easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.
There are a lot of good football players across the state of Nebraska to watch this fall. The talent continues to rise year after year. One of the latest names to know is North Platte defensive athlete Vince Genatone. The defender was out at the Future50 event last week put on by the Warren Academy.
Genatone joined Chris Schmidt of Hail Varsity Radio that day. He got an opportunity to see a presentation on name, image and likeness, which is something a lot of his friends haven’t been able to get a lot of information on.
“I really enjoyed that presentation that they had for NIL,” Genatone said. “It filled me in on a lot of new information with the whole social media thing and branding. It’s going to play a huge role once I’m in college.”
Genatone has only lived in Nebraska for about a year. Moving to a new state in 2020 had to be tough socially. He was excited to meet many of the state’s top players after talking to them on social media. It helped Genatone that he is a three-sport athlete though. He participates in football, wrestling and track at North Platte. That keeps him plenty busy.
As far as his football recruiting goes, he holds offers from Northern Arizona, Southern Mississippi, Montana and South Dakota State. He’s gotten interest from Nebraska, Kansas State, Washington State, Utah and Kansas.
“I think Nebraska, Kansas State and Washington State have definitely made the most impact on me,” Genatone said. “What I’m looking for in a school is a family, a place where I’m really going to feel like it’s home. They really showed me that when I went there. When I visited those places all the guys were hugging me up and loving on me and I just really appreciate that.”
Genatone stars for North Platte at running back, safety and linebacker. He doesn’t have a preference on position at the next level. Most teams see him as a hybrid defender. He just loves playing football and helping his team win by being on the field. Genatone does have a lot of fun playing linebacker.
“I just love hitting people,” Genatone said. “You run up and smack a running back and it feels good. Everyone wants to be a playmaker and linebacker is usually the guy that’s getting in on all the run plays.”
We could end up see Genatone shoot up college recruiting boards this fall. Based on his strong testing numbers this summer he could be in for a big fall on the field. That senior tape could really boost his stock as he decides on a future school.
