This weekend marks the first official visit weekend leading up the traditional National Signing Day on Feb. 6.
Nebraska will host four important visitors this weekend as the staff looks to finish the class strong. The Huskers currently have 25 total commitments for the 2019 class. All but two of signed in during the early period. Seven are already on campus as early enrollees.
Let’s breakdown where each prospect is in their recruitment.
2019 Official Visitors
DE/OLB Soni Fonua
The junior college defender will make the trip to Lincoln with his brother and nephew. The defensive end stands at 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds and would be a nice addition to the Blackshirts as a pass rusher. He told Hail Varsity last month that the Huskers are recruiting him for both defensive end and outside linebacker. He looks to have the size and agility to play a hybrid role for Nebraska. He also has visits scheduled to UCF, Oklahoma State and Kansas.
3-star DB DJ James
Nebraska is looking to add one more defensive back that can play corner on the outside this cycle. The Mississippi State commit could be a player that fits the bill. As a senior, James had 45 total tackles, six interceptions, 16 pass break ups and four blocked kicks. James a good athlete and a physical cornerback who is suited for Big Ten play. It won’t be easy to win him over because he is also scheduled to take visits to Oregon and Iowa this month.
3-star WR Charles Njoku
The pass-catcher from New Jersey has been one of the most talked about targets left on the board for Nebraska. His frame (6-5, 200) would give Nebraska an element currently not seen in the wide receiver room. I’m told Njoku could be the heir apparent to Stanley Morgan Jr. in the Huskers offense if you need any indication of how highly the staff thinks of him. The former Missouri commit may visit UCLA but they have not offered him yet, giving the Huskers a great shot to make a big impression on him this weekend.
4-star OLB Steven Parker
The defender from Oak Cliff, Texas, fits right into what Nebraska has been looking for in recent years at the hybrid outside linebacker spot. The former Texas Tech commit backed off his pledge when now Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury was fired. Kansas is scheduled to get an official visit from Parker and the Red Raiders are also still in the mix for him.
