Nebraska Recruiting: Recruits Take Notice of Unmatched Fan Support

April 10, 2019

Recruiting never stops and it's easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.

Prospects hear all kinds of pitches from schools as they go through the recruiting process. Style of play, campus life, coach pedigree and facilities are all common things talked about on the recruiting trail. One of the most common things you hear coaches say is that “we’ve got the best fans in America.”

When you sell out the spring game in back-to-back seasons, you have a solid claim to that title. So, what is it like for potential future Huskers to see the sea of red for the scrimmage? Sophomore defensive back Cam Taylor was in Lincoln for last year’s sellout and gave me his thoughts.

“I would just want to tell the recruits, be ready. It’s going to be a show, for one,” Taylor said. “Not just football. Fans come from everywhere and they know you. You may think that they don’t know you but as you are walking around town you have people coming up to you all the time. They say, ‘Hey, how are you doing’, very polite people. That was one of the biggest reasons I came here to Nebraska. The people are great here. On my visit I had a great time. The recruits will have a great time at the game and we [the players] will make sure they have fun after the game. Just being in the atmosphere of Nebraska football is something else.”

Nebraska will have large gathering of top targets on hand to see this year’s spring game. Many of them have been to Lincoln multiple times. They may have seen the stadium sold out in the regular season but it is a huge selling point for the Huskers that they have unmatched fan support.

It’s definitely something recruits will notice this weekend, just as Taylor did when he was being recruited.
