On Monday, we got a glimpse into how the Husker football team was relaxing and refueling after the first day of summer conditioning when head strength and conditioning coach Zach Duval tweeted this picture out.

If it feels like summer conditioning is starting earlier than normal, it’s because it is. The Huskers are getting a full two-week head start on what they used to have for summer conditioning. Nebraska will have a full eight weeks of summer conditioning including another session with The Program, led by former special forces commander Erik Kapitulik.
As the Huskers are fully turned over to Duval, it brings me back to this quote from Frost during his signing day press conference.
“I said this after the Iowa game, but there were a few games this year where, looking across the 50 at other people warming up, I thought teams were bigger than us and that’s not supposed to happen at Nebraska,” Frost said. “The Nebraska I know is bigger, stronger and more physical than other teams. We certainly have some of those guys on our team right now but we need more of them. We wanted to get bigger, particularly on the two lines, but also in other areas and other positions. We weren’t just recruiting size, we wanted good players and good athletes. I think we were able to fill those needs for the most part.”
This summer will be absolutely critical to Nebraska’s season. Not just for the new arrivals that fans and coaches are excited to have join the fold but also for overall strength and staying healthy. The Huskers are dangerously thin at a few spots as we start to ramp up for the 2019 campaign so having everyone come through this healthy is key.
