Recruiting never stops and it’s easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.
The November edition of the Greg’s Guys list is out.
The monthly list—which is my top 10 players in the class based on Nebraska’s needs, how a player fits in the scheme and talent—drops the first Tuesday of each month. We have a new player at the top of the list too in Hawaii linebacker Wynden Ho’ohuli. We also saw a handful of players from the last list commit to schools. Tight end James Carnie and defensive lineman Jailen Weaver both committed to Nebraska.
The Huskers are looking to finish the class strong with mostly defensive players this cycle. The NCAA has continued the dead period through the rest of the year. It would be a surprise if visits are allowed any time before March.
Typically, in this space, I take you through three players who just missed the cut for the list. Let’s switch that up this time because space is limited in the 2021 class. Not a lot of new names are surfacing.
Why not look ahead to a few names to know for the 2022 Greg’s Guys list?
DB Xavier Nwankpa (Des Moines, Iowa)
The defensive back (6-2, 190) from Iowa has become a bonafide national recruit over the last several months. The Huskers have been recruiting him for a long time and hosted him last season for a game. Ohio State is pushing hard for him. Iowa and LSU are also in the mix for the hard-hitting safety prospect.
TE Kaden Helms (Bellevue, Nebraska)
Since the Huskers are taking three tight ends in the 2021 class, it will be interesting to see how that impacts 2022 recruiting at the position. Local talent is strong again at the position. Helms (6-5, 215) has seen his stock rise this season so the Huskers were smart to start that relationship early. He’s another athletic tight end that would fit nicely into what Sean Beckton and Scott Frost are trying to do.
ILB Gavin Meyers (Hays, Kansas)
The junior inside linebacker (6-2, 205) racked up 100 tackles last season. He’s off to a good start to his junior year too. Meyers continues to hear from Nebraska consistently. He explained that to Hail Varsity a couple months ago. The coaching staff and fan base is sticking out to him.
“The fan base is insane,” Meyers said. “Every post of Nebraska just blows up. Just Big Red everything and all my other posts are just down lower. I really want a good fan base when I go to college. I want to get environment and that’s most important along with my connections which are good with Nebraska. I do like them though.”
