Nebraska Recruiting: The Contact Period Is Back

January 10, 2019

Recruiting never stops and it's easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.

Recruiting season is back in full swing. The contact period is back on Friday, meaning Nebraska’s coaching staff will be back on the road visiting prospects. Per the NCAA, here is a refresher on what that exactly means:

“Six (6) in-person, off-campus contacts per prospective student athletes shall be permitted during this time period with not more than one permitted in any calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) or partial calendar week.”

Coach Scott Frost can make one in-home visit with a prospect during this period just like the last contact period leading up to the early signing period. Also, Nebraska assistants can make a maximum of four more visits to recruits that have not signed provided they saw that prospect no more than two times during the first contact period. This is where it becomes important that the staff planned out their visits well during the first period and didn’t use them with players who didn’t intend to sign in December.

What will be fun to track in the run up to Feb. 6 is just how many 2020 prospects the staff is able to make contact with. There aren’t that many 2019 targets left to reel in, so these four weeks provide a great opportunity to find new 2020 targets and continue to move the ball forward with top 2020 targets.

Official visits also resume starting this weekend. Nebraska will have a very good visit weekend right out of the gate with a handful of top targets in town.
