Nebraska Recruiting Visit Primer: Jan. 20

January 18, 2017

It’s a big weekend for recruiting visits at Nebraska, as the Huskers are set to host five prospects on campus by the end of it. Out of those five, three have had contact with Donte Williams and two are currently committed to Nebraska. So, who do Husker fans have to look forward to seeing in town this weekend? We have a quick breakdown on who’s visiting, as well as which prospects are hitting the road elsewhere.

Elijah Blades | CB | Muir (Pasadena, California)

Also considering: Florida (currently committed)

Blades is currently committed to Florida, but that hasn’t stopped Nebraska from taking a chance on the 4-star cornerback out of California. In fact, the Huskers didn’t wait for Blades’ official visit to get in touch. Both Williams and Coach Mike Riley made a home visit on Tuesday.

Nebraska is still very much in the mix for Blades, so his visit will be particularly interesting and worth keeping an eye on.

Deommodore Lenoir | CB | Bishop Mora Salesian (Los Angeles, California)

Also considering: Oregon

This is Lenoir’s second visit to Nebraska after visiting in 2016 for the annual spring game. He originally committed to Oregon in June, but decommitted in November with the Ducks’ coaching change. That doesn’t mean the Ducks are out of the picture though. In fact, Oregon is probably Nebraska’s biggest competition for Lenoir at this point.

For a little reminder of what Lenoir is capable of, check out his kick return from the U.S. Army All-American Bowl:

Bryan Thompson | WR | Rancho Verde (Moreno Valley, California)

Also considering: Oregon

With Jamire Calvin decommitting from Oregon State on Tuesday, Nebraska is still in the mix for quite a few wide receivers. That includes Ranco Verde prospect Bryan Thompson.

Thompson is relatively new to Nebraska, as he was just offered on Saturday, Jan. 7. Since then, he scheduled his visit and will be in town to see what the Huskers have to offer.

Like Lenoir, Thompson is also heavily considering Oregon so Nebraska could snag two of the Ducks’ prospects depending on how the weekend goes.

Brenden Jaimes | OL | Lake Travis (Austin, Texas)

Also considering: None

Jaimes got a visit from Mike Cavanaugh on Thursday, Jan 12 and Riley on Monday, Jan. 16 but he’s still planning to make the trip to Lincoln for the weekend.

Jaimes has made it clear that while others may be interested in him (like Texas), he simply does not share that interest in return. The Huskers have a pretty solid verbal commit from Jaimes who uses Twitter to welcome new Husker commits and promote Nebraska.

Deontre Thomas | DT | Mustang (Mustang, Oklahoma)

Also considering: None

Others have been pushing for Thomas – like Notre Dame – but he’s still committed to Nebraska ahead of this weekend’s visit. A big positive for the Huskers is that Thomas’ mom – Cameal Thompson – appears to be a big fan of Nebraska.

Thompson has made it clear her son is all-in (or should we say all-N) for Nebraska, so it’s hard to believe he’s considering anywhere else. As always, it’s still worth keeping an eye on before Feb. 1 (as nothing is ever guaranteed).

As for where other Husker prospects are supposed to be this weekend, we have a quick rundown of who will be where.
