Recruiting never stops and it's easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.
There have been dozens of new scholarship offers from the Huskers to prospects during the evaluation period. While a majority of the offers have been for future classes, there have been a good number of 2020 offers as well.
With so many new offers lately, it definitely seems like Nebraska had a number of players that were on the border of an offer but the staff wanted to see them in person before making things official. Last month, I asked tight ends coach Sean Beckton about the process of kids getting offers and he laid out part of the process.
“We look at pretty much every kid as a staff,” Beckton remarked. “There are some guys we say yes, go full bore after. There are some guys that we want to recruit still but we need to see a little bit more out of. A lot of times we need to see more. Sometimes we need to get eyes on a kid at a camp. There’s a process to it. Some guys stick out right away and some guys are on that fence and we have to see them with our own eyes to see him do things or work with them so we can see how they tick a bit. I think it’s a case-by-case basis.”
There are a whole host of factors that can lead to a prospect getting an offer from the Huskers. While there aren’t any camps right now for Nebraska to see players at, it certainly helps once they can get eyes on a prospect and talk to his high school coach. Once Nebraska starts to hold its own camps in June and participates in other camps around the country, expect another wave of offers to go out.
We’ll see what the new 2020 offers do to shake up the current recruiting board. Surely the Huskers are positioning themselves well with 2021 and 2022 prospects that they currently like after a flurry of activity the last two weeks.
