Nebraska Recruiting: Will the Huskers Get Good News While in Ireland?

August 21, 2022

Recruiting never stops and it’s easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Hail Varsity recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.

Don’t say anything to anyone as it would violate the “silent” part of what I’m about to write, but there’s plenty of chatter out there that Cameron Lenhardt has been a “silent commit” to Nebraska for a while now. Things can always change in recruiting, and do, but Lenhardt’s leanings haven’t been a particularly well-kept secret to this point.

The cloak-and-dagger-ness of it all will end soon enough as Lenhardt announced his commitment date this weekend.

The Huskers remain the apparent front-runner for the 6-foot-3, 240-pound edge rusher from IMG Academy. Nebraska fans have been eagerly awaiting news on Lenhardt’s college choice since 4-star Louisiana edge rusher Ashley Williams Jr, somewhat strangely, committed to NU on July 10 only to decommit three weeks later, visit Auburn and commit to the Tigers shortly thereafter.

Lenhardt, originally from Staten Island, N.Y., has been diligent through his recruiting process so far. He counts offers from Miami, Tennessee, Arkansas, Michigan State and Penn State, among others. Lenhardt has visited State College four times, but the Huskers made a hard charge this summer.

“I will say something that stood out the most was just the coaching staff,” Lenhardt told Hail Varsity following his official visit to Lincoln in June. “They’re a great group of guys and great men. It’s somewhere I can picture myself being. Plus, Coach [Scott] Frost is a cool dude.”

Nebraska is the only official visit the 4-star prospect has taken.

The Huskers’ staff and players will be in Ireland preparing to face Northwestern in Dublin at Aviva Stadium on Aug. 27. If things shake out like most expect, Lenhardt might be the first verbal commitment Nebraska has received while on foreign soil.
