Recruiting never stops and it's easy to miss the top stories day-to-day. Recruiting analyst Greg Smith recaps all things Nebraska recruiting news, analysis and more so you never miss a thing.
Let’s talk about the unique position Nebraska finds itself in with sophomore quarterback Adrian Martinez. It’s very rare that a quarterback becomes the face of the program this quickly all while having a record-setting freshman season where he accumulated 3,242 total yards and 25 total touchdowns.
It’s also not a secret that Scott Frost wants to see Martinez lead the team by example and vocally. After all, he did name that trait as the number one thing his quarterback needed to work on ahead of spring practice.
At the end of June, Martinez was a counselor in the Manning Passing Academy where he earned rave reviews. On Monday, Martinez then became the first sophomore to be selected to represent Nebraska at Big Ten Media Days. The national media in attendance and wider selection of Big Ten media will enjoy speaking with Martinez at that event. It’s not just hype off the field though. I stumbled across this stat line from Pro Football Focus College.

The belief that Martinez is the quarterback to lead Nebraska back is playing a role in the lofty preseason projections for Nebraska in 2019. Martinez is already an active recruiter for Nebraska as well. Multiple recruits have noted their time spent with him either on official or unofficial visits in Lincoln.
There is a lot of pressure that comes along with all of this but as most of us know from covering him and watching his young career, he can handle it. It feels like we are all witnessing the ascent of one of the next big things in college football.
Enjoy it while it lasts.
