The Huskers are back home this weekend after being on the road two weeks ago and having a bye week last week. That means the Huskers have another opportunity to bring recruits in. They will be able to check out campus and see the matchup with Purdue in person. Coach Scott Frost said the team would be bringing in less 2022 visitors and that is the case again for Nebraska.
There are no scheduled official visitors on the docket for the Huskers this weekend. The team was scheduled to host Chicago defensive back Jalil Martin for an official visit. He has a conflict. Martin’s high school is playing a playoff game on Saturday afternoon so he can’t make it. Both sides are still interested in making that visit happen.
Nebraska is scheduled to host close to 40 visitors this weekend. The biggest storyline heading into the weekend is the number of intriguing 2023 prospects the Huskers are hoping to get a closer look at. The Huskers have done a nice job of getting future prospects to Lincoln for games. Indiana linebacker Aycen Stevens (6-4, 210) is making his way to Lincoln. He holds early offers from Tennessee, Indiana, Iowa State and Cincinnati among others. Iowa athlete Jamison Patton (6-2, 190) will be on campus and he holds an early offer from Iowa State. Joe Otting (6-4, 265) is an offensive lineman from Kansas with offers from Missouri, Kansas State, Iowa State and Kansas. Missouri wide receiver Joshua Manning (6-3, 190) will be one to watch. He’s got offers from Kansas and Kansas State, and has a great frame.
The Huskers continue to bring quarterbacks in for visits, a theme we have noticed all season. The headliner of the group is perhaps the best 2023 quarterback in Iowa. JJ Kohl (6-6, 225) will be at the game. He impressed Nebraska during its seven-on-seven tournament this summer. Kohl has offers from Florida State, Iowa and Iowa State. Patton, who I mentioned above, also plays quarterback for his school. Isaiah Zelasney is a 2023 signal-caller from Nebraska. Elkhorn South quarterback Carson Rauner is a name to know for the 2024 class.
Kickers continue to have increased importance on the visit list. The more the season has gone on the more attention the Huskers have paid to this. There are a pair of 2022 kickers taking unofficial visits this week. Elkhorn South’s Carsen Crouch will be on the sidelines. He is the son of Heisman Trophy-winner Eric Crouch. Kansas kicker Charlie Weinrich will also be in town. He’s got an offer from Kansas and many walk-on opportunities. Nebraska’s next man up after Connor Culp appears to be up in the air.
There is something else to keep in mind. Frost mentioned recently about looking for more “immediate impact” players from the portal. Those players wouldn’t be taking game day visits. Also, JUCO players will likely be visiting even later in the season.
Keep it locked on Hail Varsity for updates after the visits have concluded.
