The Huskers will look to add a few more defensive backs for the 2020 recruiting class, which is becoming a reshaped room under defensive backs coach Travis Fisher. Late Monday night, Nebraska made the top three for 3-star (HV Rating: 83.2) defensive back Kendrick Simpkins out of Montgomery, Alabama.

I caught up with Simpkins to get his thoughts on Nebraska since he started talking to the Huskers this spring, what stands out about his top three and more.
Here is the full Q&A:
What were your thoughts when you first got offer from Nebraska?
“When I got the offer, they immediately became a top school. Just knowing the great coaching staff with Scott Frost and Travis Fisher. The program and fans they have are great. I know they are also on the come up.”
How is the relationship building with Fisher?
“The relationship has been good. I talked to him and he’s excited about me. I’m excited about him too. We are building a bond.”
What was your knowledge of the Huskers down in Alabama?
“I have a lot of knowledge of Nebraska. I’m close with Cam Taylor. He’s from the Montgomery area. I’m close with another guy that took a visit to Nebraska so I knew a lot about Nebraska before really talking to them.”
What has it been like to watch Taylor? What conversations have you had about the school?
“It’s great. He’s got to see different things and experience new things, just trying to get away from home and do something better. He can bring that back and pave the way. The conversations we’ve had is sometimes he will recruit me to tell me Nebraska is the move. Sometimes he says to take the recruiting process through and just have regular talks.”

What stands out to you about each of your top three schools?
“Nebraska with the tradition, the coaches, the fans and how they are coming up. Colorado has Mel Tucker who is a defensive minded coach. He coached a lot in the league. He produced a lot of guys and sent them to the NFL. FAU is Lane Kiffin. It’s ‘Bama like. He coached with ‘Bama, coached Jason Jones from Ole Miss. They are an upcoming team in a great area. Boca Raton is beautiful.”
What are you looking forward to on your official visit to Nebraska for the Ohio State game?
“I’m looking for the bond with players and the at home feeling. I want to spend time with the coaches too.”
Do you have official visits set to the other two finalists?
“No, I’m working on it.”
What would you say are the things you are most looking for in a future school?
“I’m looking for that at home feeling. I’m mostly just looking to feel at home. Hopefully I can contribute to the team early. Also, the academics but mostly feeling at home and knowing that I’m wanted.”

As he got older and had to hang up his cleats and sneakers, he realized his passion for sports went beyond just watching and attending games.
