The Huskers continued the momentum on the recruiting trail.
Nevada running back Ashton Hayes (5-11, 180) committed to Nebraska on Thursday. Hail Varsity was able to confirm the news directly with Hayes.
The speedy back out of Nevada was in Lincoln last weekend for an official visit. Prior to that trip to Nebraska Hayes took an official visit to Cal on the first weekend that official visits could happen. Hayes is the fifth commitment for Nebraska’s 2022 recruiting class. He joins quarterback Richard Torres and tight end Chase Androff as commitments from official visits this summer.
As a sophomore, Hayes was a prolific runner for McQueen High School in Reno, Nevada. He rushed for 2,429 yards and 30 touchdowns that season, averaging 8.9 yards per carry. He also caught 28 passes for 346 yards and two touchdowns. He chose Nebraska over Cal and 13 other scholarship offers.
Spaces are tight for the 2022 recruiting class. It’s unclear if the Huskers will be able to take a second one even with Georgia native Justin Williams taking an official visit during the June 4th weekend.
Hail Varsity will have more on the latest Husker commitment soon.
