Nebraska’s 2023 recruiting class isn’t finished yet. With a few weeks remaining before signing day, Omaha Burke senior Mason Jones (Blankenship) announced his commitment to Nebraska on Monday as a preferred walk-on.

Jones was a standout running back and safety at Burke last season but comes to Nebraska as a moldable athlete. He finished with 191 rushing yards,196 receiving yards and 22 kickoff return yards with five total touchdowns last season. On defense he made 17 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, 2.0 sacks and forced and recovered one fumble each. In the weight room he posted a 4.27 shuttle, 285 bench and 435 squat.
He was approached by the previous coaching staff throughout the season and invited for game day visits. The new coaching staff recently extended the same preferred walk-on offer as the last staff and Jones accepted.
Jones joins Oakland-Craig’s Grant Seagren, Bellevue West’s Cayden Echternach, Gretna’s Korver Demma and Elkhorn South’s Cole Ballard as preferred walk-ons in Nebraska’s 2023 recruiting class.
