Onyemaobi Says He Has a Front-Runner on Eve of Signing Day

January 31, 2017

Q: How was your visit to Nebraska?

MO: It was awesome. Absolutely incredible. It was the chance of a lifetime, for sure.

Q: Did you and Tyjon Lindsey know each other before this past weekend?

MO: We had known of each other but that was really it until recently. That’s when we started kicking it.

Q: What was your favorite part about your visit?

MO: Being around the entire coaching staff. I have loved Donte for a while but getting a chance to be around every single coach and all of the players, that was really awesome.

Q: Who stood out to you most?

MO: It would probably be Lamar Jackson. He was my player host. Probably him more than anyone really. He’s awesome.

Q: What did you do?

MO: We went out to dinner both nights. We got to hang with the players and chill a little bit. That kind of stuff.

Q: Did you have a favorite part about the stadium?

MO: I walked out of the locker room and took the actual walk down the red carpet and that blew my mind. It was definitely awesome seeing that and imagining all of the fans. It was crazy.

Q: How will you ultimately make your decision about where to play college football?

MO: It’s just really my gut. We’ll see where it takes me. That’s really where I am right now.

Q: Is it stressful to make this big of a decision?

MO: I try not to allow it to. Some people get in a situation where they’re like, ‘Oh, this is such a huge decision. I can’t make a mistake.’ That’ll mess you up. If you look at it like this is a decision and at the end of the day I’m going to make the right decision for me because I’m going to trust me gut and my small counsel, then you know at the end of the day it’s all going to be fine just working through the process.

Q: Last time we talked, you were still committed to Cal. What did the decision to decommit do for you in this process?

MO: It’s crazy how it’s all played out. I tried to make a decision that was best for me which was a step back on my pledge but it definitely helped open up my eyes and see things more clearly than I would have.

Q: Do you know who you’ll select on Wednesday?

MO: There is a front-runner but I am torn between two. That’s where I am right now.

Q: What do you want Nebraska fans to know about you?

MO: Regardless of what happens, I’m a football player and I’m making the best decision for myself possibly whether that’s at Nebraska or elsewhere.
