Over the weekend, Nebraska hosted a big group of official visitors as they move full-steam ahead towards National Signing Day on Feb. 7. It was a busy but somewhat quiet (more on that below) weekend considering how many top targets were on campus.
Still, there was news to talk about so take a look back on some news from the weekend.
>>Over the weekend I received word that talented 4-star athlete Nikko Hall from Calabasas, California, is scheduled for an official visit to Nebraska on Feb. 2. It’s good news that Nebraska plans to bring in another talented player and one who is versatile after starring on both sides of the ball in high school. Something to keep a close eye on is how many prospects that are currently scheduled to visit Lincoln on Feb. 2 end up making it to campus. It’s nice to have the final official visit for prospects but with visit spots shrinking and limited space in the class, can Nebraska afford to wait until that weekend to host top targets?
>>After hosting a busy official-visit weekend, Nebraska coaches got out on the road immediately. The first confirmed visit was last night as offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Troy Walters flew out to California to visit 3-star wide receiver Andre Hunt.

Look for Nebraska to try to set up an official visit for Hunt in the coming weeks. It would not surprise me if they get out to some of their top targets that are currently locked in for Feb. 2 to see if they can move those visits up.
>>One visitor who is locked in for a Jan. 19 visit to keep an eye on is 3-star QB Jamarye Joiner. The Arizona commit could be the best quarterback target left on the board for Nebraska. The Huskers are looking to add a second quarterback to this class. Arizona has now wrapped up its coaching search after word broke this weekend that Kevin Sumlin will be the Wildcats new head coach. Joiner tweeted this out over the weekend.

Sumlin’s hire could make things interesting especially with the hire of Noel Mazzone as his offensive coordinator. Mazzone has a good story to tell of helping develop Brett Hundley while at UCLA and we know Sumlin’s quarterbacks have been prolific. Joiner also has trips scheduled to Baylor and Alabama though neither school has offered him a scholarship at this point. Perhaps Mario Verduzco and Frost will take a trip to Arizona this week to see him.

>>There has been talk of what it means that the visit weekend has been relatively quiet following the number of top targets that were on campus this weekend. I do not think this is part of some plot to have a group announcement committing to Nebraska or a case where they are being instructed to keep quiet on how their visits went. What’s interesting is that many of the guys in Lincoln this weekend just do not conduct many interviews. That isn’t a good or a bad thing, it’s just how these particular prospects are most comfortable. Just because recruits aren’t talking to recruiting analysts doesn’t mean they didn’t enjoy their visits.
>>A prospect I was able to get on the phone, 3-star DE Casey Rogers, could not have been more excited about his trip to Lincoln. You can read this interview here and see why I’m predicting he will end up in Nebraska’s class.
