Reviewing the Huskers’ Recruiting Weekend

November 06, 2017

Nebraska managed to have a monster recruiting weekend against Northwestern that featured seven official visitors and multiple committed players on unofficial visits.

Five-star WR Jalen Hall‍, 4-star DB Kalon Gervin‍, 4-star DE/OLB Elijah Wade‍, 4-star WR/TE Camren McDonald‍, 3-star RB Jeremy Banks‍, 3-star OT Chris Bleich‍ and DB Andre Cisco‍ all made their visits to Lincoln. 3-star defensive line commit Masry Mapieu‍ and 3-star offensive line commit Will Farniok‍ both made unofficial trips to Lincoln. 4-star defensive back commit Mario Goodrich also made his first trip back to Lincoln of the season for an official visit.

Four-star wide receiver commit Joshua Moore also made the trip to Lincoln. It’s important to note that this was Moore’s third trip to Lincoln this season. He told me that he came alone this time. There has been a lot of speculation around Moore and how solid his commitment is with all the turmoil around the Nebraska football program. My feeling here is pay attention to the visits. If he makes the trip to Florida State (it was scheduled for this past weekend and was postponed) then all bets are off. Even if (when) Mike Riley is fired, there is no guarantee that Keith Williams will also be let go. Florida State has its own coaching turnover likely coming and the Seminoles' wide receiver coach is not safe either.

Three-star running back Jeremy Banks is one of the hottest recruits in the country right now. He has a great size-speed combination and is having a monster senior season. I have been unable to reach Banks for an interview but he appears to have had a great time on his trip and there are talks of him returning for an unofficial visit as well. This is the type of running back the Huskers need in the fold, especially with the questions surrounding Tre Bryant’s knee.

Offensive tackle Chris Bleich was on campus and enjoyed his time in Lincoln as well. The 3-star UCLA commit has long been a target for Nebraska and was viewed as a lock to the Huskers when he suddenly committed to UCLA. The staff stayed in contact as offensive tackle is still a high priority for this class. Also working in Nebraska’s favor is that Bleich is very close with current lineman Broc Bando. It would not surprise me if Nebraska was able to flip Bleich.

It feels like ages ago that 4-star defensive back Christian Tutt was on campus for the Rutgers game. He had a great time and was close to joining the Huskers' class when he was on campus. He had a spectacular highlight reel touchdown over the weekend.
