Scottsbluff Offensive Lineman Brock Knutson Ready for June Official Visits and Summer Decision

May 19, 2022

Nebraska’s spring game was an exciting day for Scottsbluff offensive lineman Brock Knutson. It ended with a scholarship offer from the in-state school. Knutson (6-7, 270) got the full visit experience too, hanging out in the player’s lounge and attending meetings. The lineman even got to have Valentino’s pizza, which he said made him happy since his side of the state doesn’t have it.

He already had nine offers coming into that day. The Huskers were telling him to be patient before the spring game as new offensive line coach Donovan Raiola needed time to evaluate his film. Knutson was offered by coach Scott Frost in his office after a short conversation.

“Me personally, I didn’t really say much. I just got a big smile on my face,” Knutson said. “It didn’t leave my face until we go back home. I think my dad was more excited than I was. Because he didn’t stop smiling for like two weeks.”

Knutson’s dad and grandfather are big Husker fans. It started with his grandfather about 50 years ago and the family has loved the Huskers ever since. Knutson’s grandfather has memorabilia from the Nebraska championship teams, including a signed 1970 championship poster signed by Bob Devaney and Tom Osborne.

Raiola liked Knutson’s film enough to offer the scholarship. He told the young lineman that he doesn’t watch highlight tapes of players but relies on game film instead. The Huskers’ coach likes Knutson’s work ethic, how hard plays and how he finishes blocks. One of the things that Knutson likes about Raiola is how he uses acronyms to help players remember things.

The Huskers already have a pair of offensive linemen committed in the 2023 class. Both Sam Sledge and Gunnar Gottula are native Nebraskans like Knutson. Sledge and Knutson already know each other and have become friends, having met last year at the Warren Academy during a camp. The Creighton Prep standout has his recruiter hat on too.

“Oh, yeah, Sam has been in my ear,” Knutson said. “So yesterday or the day before it was just his birthday. I text him happy birthday. And he asked me when I was going to commit to Nebraska. I told him I don’t know.”

That would have been a great birthday present for Sledge. Knutson has a pair of official visits lined up before he can make his decision. He’ll be in Lincoln for the big June 3-5 weekend on an official visit.

After that trip he will go to Iowa State June 17-19. Knutson does have a timeline in mind for when he’d like to commit, saying he would like to have his future school selected before the end of the summer. He doesn’t have a set criteria he is looking for when it comes to making that decision. He said that he is looking for the feeling that he gets at the school. When it clicks for him, he will know his choice.
