Texas WR Will Nixon Sees Fit In Huskers Offense

June 02, 2019

On Saturday, 3-star (HV Rating: 85.8) wide receiver Will Nixon‍ visited Nebraska with his dad. Nixon has been in talks with the Huskers for a few months now since they offered him back in March. During the evaluation period the Huskers sent offensive coordinator Troy Walters and running backs coach Ryan Held to Waco, Texas, to visit him.

After a great in-person meeting, Nixon returned the favor with an unofficial visit. I caught up with the speedy pass-catcher to get his thoughts on the visit, what he’s looking for in a school and more.

Here is our full Q&A.

What were your overall thoughts on the visit?

I loved it. It was great. It’s a great college town. I loved the facilities. I got to meet all the coaching staff on the offensive side. I got to talk to Coach [Scott] Frost. He’s a great guy and chill. They told me the honest truth, that I could be a big player for them if I work hard and go down that road.

What were some of the things that stood out on the visit?

What they told me on the visit, about how versatile I am. I got to see a couple of their plays and how they run things. That stood out to me the most. Oh, and the facilities.

What did you think about the offense in general?

It was great. I got to see everything they do. I saw what my role could be. I love what Coach Walters and Coach Held told me about the offense.

Who came with you on the trip?

Just my father.

He’s the offensive coordinator at Baylor right?

Yes sir, he’s the offensive coordinator.

So, you have a unique perspective on offensive philosophy in general. What is it like having him guide you along?

He’s my mentor. He’s helped me since I was a kid with football, telling me what I need to know and work on. Sometimes at dinner, he will tell me certain offensive concepts to work on as well.

Right now, do you have other visits planned for the summer?

Yes sir. I’m going to visit Georgia Tech, Purdue and possibly Notre Dame.

Is this distance an issue for you since the schools you are looking at are all over the place?

No sir. I want to go off somewhere and make my mark. Wherever that feels comfortable for me will be where I pick.

Do you plan to take officials during the summer or wait until the season?

I’m not really sure right now. I’m taking these three unofficials this summer. Honestly, I might be planning to take an official to Nebraska this summer. If not then possibly next season.

What would you say are some of the top things you are looking for in a school?

I’m looking for a place where I can work hard and make the NFL. Then again, when football is over, which college will prepare me the most for after football. There will come a time that ends so I’m looking for a place that prepares me for life.
