3-Star Nashville Athlete Demetrius Bell Commits to Nebraska as Late 2023 Addition

January 24, 2023

A potentially loaded wide receivers room just got a little more crowded. Three-star recruit Demetrius Bell, a former Michigan State commit, announced on Tuesday that he’ll sign with Nebraska as a late arrival in the 2023 recruiting class.

Bell largely played receiver for McGavock High School in Nashville, but could move around on either offense or defense. He finished with 274 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns, and 59 receptions for 702 yards with eight touchdowns last season. In the secondary he made 17 tackles.

Nebraska’s latest roster addition committed to Michigan State last summer but re-opened his path in September. He took multiple visits with offers from over two dozen schools, including Alabama, Michigan, Penn State and Ole Miss. Kentucky also made a late push to land Bell.

Bell is the fourth commitment in two days, 26th commitment in the 2023 recruiting class, Matt Rhule’s first at Nebraska. He’s also the fourth designated athlete in the recruiting class, eighth out of high school who played receiver at times last year. Bell could move across the roster to fit skillsets Rhule and his coaching staff identify.

As of Tuesday morning, Nebraska was ranked No. 24 in the composite rankings. Bell’s commitment likely moves Nebraska ahead of Mississippi State to No. 23 nationally. Only Ohio State (No. 5), Penn State (No. 14) and Michigan (No. 17) rank ahead of Nebraska among Big Ten schools with just over a week until National Signing Day.
