We have hit the much-needed bye week for Nebraska. There are numerous reasons why the Huskers are in desperate need of a week off. One of the big reasons is that not having a game will allow the coaching staff to get out on the road and evaluate prospects in person.
The Nebraska staff has not squeezed in much time for this yet outside of a stop or two in Colorado when the team traveled to Boulder for the matchup with the Buffaloes.
So, where is the staff heading this week? I’ll update this space each day as Hail Varsity learns more.
Monday update
>> Offensive line coach Greg Austin will be in Council Bluffs on Saturday to see Iowa Western take on Snow College.

Offensive lineman Kobe Rios is the main target that Austin will have his eye on. I spoke with Rios who confirmed the trip. Rios also relayed that if all goes well an offer will come from the Huskers. The interior lineman (6-6, 300) took an unofficial visit to Lincoln for the Northern Illinois game.
Thusday update
>> Sources have informed Hail Varsity that quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco will be in Muscle Shoals this weekend to see quarterback commit Logan Smothers. It’ll be a nice bonus to see 4-star (and a potential flip target) linebacker Jackson Bratton in person as well.
>> I was able to catch up with running back commit Sevion Morrison who told me that since he plays on Thursday night, running backs coach Ryan Held is in town for his game. Morrison is having a record-breaking season so I’m sure he will be looking to be put on a show for his future position coach. A Thursday game frees Held up to hit a different game on Friday night and likely a JUCO game on Saturday.
>> Offensive line coach Greg Austin will be in Lawrence, Kansas, on Friday to check out 4-star offensive tackle commit Turner Corcoran. The prized offensive lineman’s team has only lost one game this season as we inch closer to the state playoffs in Kansas.
>> Hail Varsity has learned the whereabouts of defensive backs coach Travis Fisher. The coach, who is quietly having another good class, is down in Florida. I specifically know that he stopped by Champagnant Catholic in Hialeah, Florida. That school is home to recent Florida State 4-star defensive backs decommit Jalen Harrell. Fisher also spoke with 2020 inside linebacker target Jesus Machado about potentially coming to Lincoln for a visit.
Keep up with Hail Varsity all week for more updates as we have them.
