We have hit the second bye week for Nebraska. This one feels different than the first one this season, even if the team is entering the time off after another disappointing loss. Still, this is an opportunity to get out on the road and evaluate prospects in person.
The Nebraska staff was able to get out during the first bye week and see many current commits and top targets. This time around it seems like the primary focus will be seeing top targets for the 2020 cycle but also top 2021 targets.
So, where is the staff heading this week? I’ll update this space each day as Hail Varsity learns more.
Tuesday Update
>> Tight ends coach Sean Beckton will back in south Georgia one day this week. He will be focusing on some of the Huskers 2021 targets in the area. It’s always important to continue building the relationship as early as possible. I wouldn’t be surprised if we learn of some new offers in the area this week.
>> Outside linebackers coach Jovan Dewitt will be down in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and the surrounding area. That area is one of Dewitt’s specialties so having him around the high schools there making impressions on coaches and younger prospects makes sense. Another thing to keep in mind is this is the perfect time for Dewitt to gauge the interest of any flip targets who are committed to Florida State.
Thursday Update
>> Coach Scott Frost is making the rounds in the Omaha Metro on Thursday. Hail Varsity has confirmed that he will stop through Omaha Burke, Omaha Westside, Bellevue West and Creighton Prep. Each of those schools has plenty of talent both walk-on and scholarship for this year and beyond.
And while checking in on recruits, Frost also saw a dog at Prep.

>> Frost also made his way to Iowa to see 2021 OLB target Seth Malcom. The Iowa defender visited Lincoln last for the matchup with Ohio State. Nebraska is very high on Malcom for the 2021 cycle.

>> Hail Varsity has learned that tight ends coach Sean Beckton will be stopping by Crisp County High in Georgia on Thursday. The main target there is 2021 inside linebacker Christopher Paul Jr. The Georgia linebacker will be in Lincoln next weekend for an unofficial visit for the game against Wisconsin.
>> There is also some official visit news. Jimari Butler, a 2020 outside linebacker, told Hail Varsity that he will visiting Nebraska for the Iowa game with his mom. Butler (6-5, 210) hasn’t been playing football long but is very athletic. His stock has risen in a big way recently. He’s picked up offers from TCU, Tennessee and Ole Miss recently among others.
