Nebraska will host its first Junior Day for the 2023 recruiting class this weekend. This is the first time that Nebraska’s revamped coaching staff will bring in a big group of prospects to campus.
There are several intriguing targets making their way to Lincoln for the event. The Huskers always find a way to have prospects from around the country at these events. This time is no different. Nebraska is represented well this weekend, as well as Colorado, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Texas.
The Huskers will host two Junior Day events in January. The first will be Jan. 22 and the second will be one week later on Jan. 29. This is the first opportunity for us to see the how the Huskers shift priorities with new coaches on the staff. They’ve had the opportunity to evaluate juniors to see who fits their vision best.
The group of 2023 prospects coming to town have a 500-mile radius flavor. Each prospect is likely to be a key target for the Huskers during the 2023 cycle. Missouri wideout Joshua Manning is making a return trip to Lincoln. He will have his first chance to meet with Mickey Joseph in person. Oklahoma defensive back Erik McCarty is quickly rising up the recruiting rankings after a standout junior season. Lincoln East star Malachi Coleman is a must-get player for Nebraska from in-state.
There is a group of players coming to Lincoln that could be on the cusp of picking up offers. The most intriguing to me is Creighton Prep offensive lineman Sam Sledge. The lineman (6-3, 261) led one of the best offensive lines in the state last season. Sledge is being viewed as a center prospect by the Huskers. The Huskers will also have Lincoln High wide receiver Beni Ngoyi (6-2, 180) back on campus. Ngoyi could be on the verge of a big senior season. Nebraska will also host a pair of unofficial visitors that could have opportunities to walk-on with the Huskers.
Stay tuned to Hail Varsity for reaction throughout the weekend from the visitors.
