The Huskers will host their second Junior Day for the 2023 recruiting class this weekend. The first one was last weekend which earned the program rave reviews from prospects. We saw a handful of new offers come out of the day. These players and their familes got the first extended time with the new Nebraska coaching staff. Only a handful of players who have come in for 2022 official visits have met with them.
Nebraska is expecting about the same size group of visitors this weekend with close to 30 prospects coming to town. There are prospects from all over the country coming in again. Nebraska is, of course, covered. So is Iowa, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, Missouri, Wisconsin and Minnesota. There is also a prospect from Kansas coming to visit. The Huskers have done a nice job of getting players to town where the team has been spending a lot of time in recent weeks.
There are several offered prospects coming to meet with the coaches. They’ll also get a feel for the program this weekend. Cornerback Avieon Terrell is a very good prospect. He holds offers from around the country including Clemson. Quarterback JJ Kohl (6-6, 210) is in the mix for the top quarterback on the board for this Huskers in the 2023 class. This weekend will be very important for his relationship with Nebraska.
Georgia 2023 running back Dontavius Braswell is making a return trip to Lincoln. He visited for a game last season and has the Huskers high on his list. If the Huskers want to get into Louisiana a good place to start would be inside linebacker Kevon Freeman. The Lake Charles Prep standout is one of a handful of players from that school the Huskers have offered. Several intriguing future prospects will be in town too, including 2024 prospects Caleb Benning, Dae’vonn Hall and Mario Buford. The more the Huskers can get that trio plus 2025 Omaha Burke linebacker Christian Jones on campus the better.
Each time the Huskers host an event like this a new offer comes out. If I had to pick one player to watch for it would be Alabama defensive lineman JaQuize Buycks. The defender (6-2, 270) has early offers from Indian and USF but is poised to take off as a recruit.
Stay tuned to Hail Varsity for reaction throughout the weekend from the visitors.
