Who Nebraska Has in Town for Matchup With Iowa

November 28, 2019

Where did the season go? It’s the final weekend of the regular season for the Huskers. It’s also the last chance in 2019 to host visitors for a game day experience in Lincoln.

Initially, the Huskers had planned on this weekend being bigger but the weather played a role in muting things. Still, the Huskers have an important official visitor in junior college defensive end Julius Coates. There are also plenty of intriguing future prospects expected in town as well.

Let’s breakdown where each prospect is in their recruitment.

Official Visitor

3-star JUCO DE Julius Coates‍

The lone official visitor for the Iowa game, Coates is the Huskers’ top JUCO defensive end target this cycle. The stout defender (6-7, 270) would be a very welcome addition to the 2020 class. He is currently committed to Colorado but has remained open to checking out other options. He recently took an official visit to Oregon. In speaking with Coates before the trip with his mom and dad, he was excited to see what Nebraska has to offer.

“I’m looking forward to meeting everyone in person and getting a feel for the atmosphere,” he said.

Things could move quickly here if Nebraska hit the visit out of the park.

2020 Committed Unofficial Visitors

Outside linebacker Blaise Gunnerson and defensive tackle Nash Hutmacher will be back in Lincoln for game. A number of the Huskers walk-on commits will be back on campus as well, including Michigan specialist Camden Witucki for the first time since joining the walk-on class. Iowa Western kicker Chase Contreraz will be back in town. I still like him to be added to the walk-on class this cycle to bolster the kicking competition for 2020.

2021 Committed Visitors

Offensive tackle Teddy Prochazka will be back on the sidelines again. So will newly committed Henry Lutovsky. The pair will continue building their bond as they look forward to being teammates. There are a number of important targets for the pair to peer recruit. Defensive end Jeff Bowie is back in town and so is tight end Thomas Fidone. The Iowa natives are priorities for 2021. It is worth noting that Fidone is back in Lincoln for the second straight game. Omaha Westside 4-star cornerback Avante Dickerson is returning to Lincoln for the second time this season. Another Iowan to watch is big (6-8, 240) offensive tackle Tyler Maro.

Other top in-state 2021 prospects AJ Rollins and Isaac Zatechka will be on the sidelines too.

2022 Unofficial Visitors

There are two underclassmen making their way back to Lincoln for the Iowa game. Wide receiver Quinton Conley will be a national-level recruit. He stands at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds so he already fits the mold of the bigger receiver the Huskers needs. Recently Iowa State offered Omaha Central lineman Deshawn Woods and a Husker offer should be close.

WR Quinton Conley (Pembroke Hill) (Missouri)

OT Jaden Nolte (Falls City)

TE Maxwell Whisner (Lee’s Summit) (Missouri)

TE Gannon Williams (Marshalltown) (Iowa)

OL Deshawn Woods (Omaha Central)
