Who Nebraska Has in Town for Wisconsin Matchup

November 15, 2019

For most of the season everyone had the Ohio State game circled as the big one for recruiting. It was huge but this weekend against Wisconsin will be just as big if not bigger for Nebraska. There are seven expected official visitors that aren’t committed to Nebraska which matches the number from that week. The timing of the game at this point in the season combined with how many slots the Huskers have to fill make it a pivotal weekend. There are also a number of scholarship and walk-on commits coming back to Lincoln.

Let’s breakdown where each prospect is in their recruitment.

2020 Official Visitors

3-star CB Kendall Dennis‍ (Lakeland, Florida)

The Huskers have put themselves in good position with the Lakeland star. He shows nice versatility on film and isn’t afraid to come into the box to make a tackle. Nebraska’s staff is pitching to him that he can be used in a variety of ways like Cam Taylor-Britt is now. Florida State, Tennessee and Auburn are the other schools in the mix here for Dennis.

4-star Miami commit WR Marcus Fleming‍ (Miami, Florida)

The Miami commit is very intriguing to me. He is not the biggest wideout (5-9, 160) but he is electric with the ball in his hands. He’s a verified 4.4 40-yard dash guy who won the Florida state championship in the 100- and 200-meter dash. That speed translates to the field where he consistently takes the top off the defense against good competition. Sources tell Hail Varsity that Fleming will be in town until Monday so he will get a long look and lots of attention.

4-star DB Jaiden Francois‍ (Homestead, Florida)

The former Miami commit seems to be open to leaving the state. After leaving Miami’s class he set official visits to Nebraska and Indiana. He has good ball skills and is also a physical player which is something defensive backs coach Travis Fisher requires from his defensive backs.

4-star DB Darion Green-Warren‍ (Narbonne, California)

One of the best defensive back prospects out West, Green-Warren has been on defensive backs coach Travis Fisher’s radar for a whole. He’s a former Oklahoma commit with options all around the country but Nebraska will take its swing this weekend in hopes of making a big move.

JUCO LB Jamoi Hodge‍ (Independence, Kansas)

The Huskers have a big opportunity to jump ahead with the Independence linebacker who has seen his stock rise in a hurry. This will be his first official visit with a planned trip to Arizona next month. Hodge is excited for the trip to Lincoln.

“[I’m excited to see] the fans,” Hodge told Hail Varsity. “I heard they have one of the best fanbases in college football. Oh, and the facilities too.”

The Huskers are recruiting him as an outside linebacker that they hope can get to the quarterback. He is a December graduate.

3-star Iowa State commit JUCO WR Xavier Hutchinson‍ (Blinn, Texas)

Hutchinson has been committed to Iowa State since June but after talking with him when the Huskers offered I know they have his attention. Hutchinson (6-3, 190) is the exact bigger type of wideout that the Huskers are lacking. Hutchinson is a January enrollee so if he is making a flip it will be soon. Nebraska will get a chance this weekend.

4-star WR Bryan Robinson‍ (West Palm Beach, Florida)

The Florida 4-star has had a mysterious recruitment. At one point he was committed to Miami but backed off that pledge. He was linked heavily to Florida State but coaching turnover threw that for a loop. He will be in Lincoln this weekend with trips also planned to Florida and Alabama. He reminds me a lot of Stanley Morgan Jr. coming out of high school which would fill a need.

2020 Committed Unofficial Visitors

The Huskers will have a large group of commits in town this weekend. Most notably, two Florida defensive backs—Delancy and Lynum will be in town to welcome the other Floridians on official visits. It’s been a couple game since Gunnerson returned to Lincoln so it’ll be good to get him back around the guys too.

4-star WR Zavier Betts

4-star OT Turner Corcoran‍

3-star DB Ronald Delancy III

3-star OLB Blaise Gunnerson

3-star DB Tamon Lynum‍

Walk-on OL Xavier Trevino

Walk-on TE Nate Boerkircher

Walk-on S Ashton Hausmann

Walk-on OL Keegan Menning

Walk-on OLB Grant Tagge

2020 Uncommitted Unofficial Visitors

As we get later in the season it’s getting to the time where late offers may go out to in-state players. Lincoln Southeast standout Isaac Gifford will be back in town who could be close to an offer. I’m also intrigued that Ty Hahn and Tyson Gordon will be back on the sidelines for the game. Also, Taiten Winkel is the latest JUCO kicker/punter to come through Lincoln for a visit.

There are some very intriguing 2021 prospects that will be in town this weekend. Iowa offensive lineman Henry Lutovsky is making his way back to town and is on commit watch. Tight end Thomas Fidone was identified early by the Huskers and has completely blown up. Wide receiver Keagan Johnson is getting closer to an offer. Inside linebacker Chris Paul Jr is quite high on Nebraska and is coming in from Georgia.

The Huskers will want to get Devon Jackson to Lincoln as much as they can over the next couple of seasons. He has a chance to be the next big-time player out of Nebraska. Miles Marshall is already 6-4, 200 pounds as a sophomore.
