Smith, one of the most highly ranked recruits in the 2018 class (4-star, HV Rating: 90.6), was the first verbal commit of the Frost era at Nebraska. He joined the program in the summer made a quick impression on some of his veteran teammates through offseason workouts.
Nebraska remains deep at safety headed into the season. The Week 1 depth chart lists six Huskers on the two-deep at the position. Senior Antonio Reed and junior-college transfer Deontai Williams, a sophomore, are co-leaders at one spot with senior Aaron Williams listed as the backup. Central Florida graduate transfer Tre Neal, a senior, holds the other top spot with sophomores JoJo Domann and Marquel Dismuke as co-No. 2s.
