We dug into the archives to look at our coverage from Nebraska's last trip to Penn State, a 23-20 overtime win for the Huskers on Nov. 13, 2013.
The following is a brief excerpt from Hail Varsity Magazine that published that week, as well as photos from the game (some previously unpublished) by Aaron Babcock and Scott Bruhn. If you're interested in a trip down memory lane, you can see the complete digital edition of Hail Varsity Magazine that followed the game.
Pat Smith said earlier in the season that he used to race dirt bikes, and that if he could lay down a turn doing 80 miles per hour that he could kick a football in front of a Memorial Stadium crowd. Until Saturday though, he didn’t say anything about kicking an overtime game-winner on the road after being iced by Penn State, a false-start penalty and sub-freezing temperatures. “I was pumped up,” Smith said. “Those are the moments we live for. That’s the best scenario you could ever imagine. Really, I was just excited for the opportunity to finish the game. I’ve been wanting one all year."
