There’s a lot of great Husker memorabilia out there. Husker Attic is how we’ve showcased those vintage finds in every issue of Hail Varsity since our very first one. In the weeks ahead we’re sharing some of those gems online for the first time. Brought to you by Husker Army Presents 2020 Husker Collectible and Autograph Show.
GO BIG RED COOKBOOK
The 250-page "Go Big Red Cookbook" was published in July 1992, 10,000 copies, and included recipes from Husker coaches, former players and fans.
>>Tom Osborne, in his 20th season as head coach, offered a recipe for Grilled Salmon Steaks that included miso, green pepper and tomato.
>>Athletic Director Bob Devaney's recipe was for Chicken Divan, assistant head coach and running backs coach Frank Solich's recipe was for Solich's Special Spaghetti.
>>Among the more than two dozen former Huskers who provided recipes were: Dave Rimington (Orange Bowl Cake), Rich Glover (Jersey Tuna Salad) Roger Craig (Crab Chowder), Forrest Behm (Betty's Plain or Rice Custard) and Steve Taylor (All-American Tacos).
>>Bob Newton, an All-American offensive tackle on the 1970 national championship team, had the most succinct recipe (Bob's Super Simple Spaghetti) noting: "I believe in what Coach Devaney would always say, 'Keep It Simple, Stupid'––the KISS principle."
The 2020 Husker Collectible and Autograph Show, presented by Husker Army, has been postponed from its original April date. Stay up to date on the new day and time by visiting the Husker Army Facebook page.
