Lincoln residents have seen hearts popping up all over the city as part of the Nebraska By Heart public art project. They'll find three more on the east side of Memorial Stadium.
The three new sculptures, which sit atop Nebraska-shaped bases, were installed this week. One features an image of Jack Hoffman's famous run during Nebraska's spring game in the 2013 spring game. Another shows Nebraska's team coming out of the tunnel carrying the No. 27 jersey of Sam Foltz. The third heart sculpture features Ameer Abdullah, a cheerleader and band member, names of past Husker greats and the famous "In the deed the glory . . ." inscription from Memorial Stadium.
The Nebraska By Heart project is sponsored by Lead Up and the Sadie Dog Foundation, and has placed 89 heart sculptures around the city so far. The hearts will be auctioned off Oct. 6 during an event at Haymarket Park with proceeds split between the artists and the two sponsoring organizations.
