Update (4:30 p.m., June 27): Nebraska announced Thursday it is changing the process to get an autograph from head coach Scott Frost.
“After reviewing 2018 Nebraska Football Fan Day, the Athletic Department recognized the need to change the process of managing Coach Frost’s autograph line,” the release said. “Because of the incredible demand last year, more than half of the people in Coach Frost’s line were not able to get his autograph in the two-hour window.
“Subsequently, the decision was made to limit Coach Frost’s line to kids only for 2019 Fan Day. The athletic department staff members in charge of organizing Fan Day made the decision to limit access to Coach Frost’s line to children who were members of the Nebraska JV Team.
“After further consideration, the Fan Day organizers recognize this was a mistake. Limiting access to JV Team members could prevent some children from having the opportunity to be a part of Coach Frost’s line.
“It is important to Coach Frost that all children have an equal opportunity to receive his autograph on Fan Day. To that end, the Athletic Department has determined that JV Team membership will now be free.”
The line will still be limited to only 250 kids (eighth grade or younger) who are a part of the JV Team, but there will no longer be a monetary component to getting in line. Parents are being asked to sign their kids up for the JV Team beginning on July 8 at 10 a.m. Kids will then be randomly selected.
In addition to the line to meet Frost in person, the head coach also plans to autograph 8×10 photos that will be distributed to the first 1,000 kids at Fan Day that are not a part of his autograph line.
Set the calendars.
On August 1, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Nebraska will hold its annual fan day event at Memorial Stadium.
Fans should be aware of a couple changes to this year’s Fan Day. After last year, when the line to get an autograph from head coach Scott Frost stretched outside the stadium and lasted until well past the event ended (and produced this story), the Huskers are limiting the line to Nebraska JV Team members only. There will be a pre-determined number of JV Team members allowed in line on a first-come, first-served basis, and they will check in at 4:30 p.m. at the Hawks Championship Center entrance.
Each JV team member can be accompanied in the line by one adult and can have one item signed. They will also be able to take a picture with Frost, who will once again be inside the Osborne Athletic Complex. More information on Fan Day will be sent to JV Team members as Fan Day nears.
The Nebraska JV team is the official kids’ club of the Huskers and is open to all kids in the eighth grade and below. Those interested in joining the Nebraska JV team can do so here beginning on July 1.
All Nebraska players and assistant coaches will be on the Memorial Stadium field, seated in similar locations as last year near the West sideline. All Husker fans are welcome to access any of the position group lines on the field, and are asked to limit their autograph requests to one item per player or coach.
More information on fan entrances and exits, parking, concessions, restrooms and other Fan Day details will be forthcoming.
One day later, the Huskers will open fall camp in preparation of the 2019 season. Nebraska begins the year on Aug. 31 at home against South Alabama.
