WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – On a cold night, in front of a half-empty Ross-Ade Stadium, Nebraska (4-4, 3-2 Big Ten) might have saved its season with a 25-24 victory over Purdue (3-5, 1-4 Big Ten) thanks to a Stanley Morgan Jr. touchdown with 14 seconds left.
Quarterback Tanner Lee drove the Huskers 70 yards in 1:08 on the team’s final possession, going 7-for-8 and connecting with the junior wideout on the go-ahead touchdown.
Lee finished the game with a career-high 431 yards on 32-for-50 passing, despite getting absolutely no help from his ground game. The Huskers’ rushing attack produced a season-low 40 yards on 27 attempts. But Lee was good enough to overcome it.
Lee was turnover-free and saw two of his receivers top the century mark receiving. Morgan had 112 yards on six catches, his fourth 100-yard game this season tying a school record. Tight end Tyler Hoppes also had 105 yards and a score.
The Huskers had just 12 points heading into the fourth quarter, but outscored Purdue 13-7 and tied the school record for largest fourth-quarter comeback (12 points).
The Huskers will be back in action on Nov. 4 at home against Northwestern.
