Nebraska is coming off a 37-27 win over Purdue in West Lafayette, Indiana. As for Minnesota, the Golden Gophers have had their last two games canceled against Wisconsin and Northwestern. Minnesota is facing a COVID-19 outbreak on the team after reporting 49 positive cases (23 players and 26 staff), which prompted a pause in all team-related activities. The Gophers started the process of returning to practice in preparation for the Nebraska matchup middle of last week.
“In a potential return to practice – and under guidance of medical experts – members of the football program started light acclimatization workouts on Wednesday, Dec. 2 and continued those workouts today,” Minnesota said in a statement from last Thursday.
As cases on the team have started to trend down, it seems more likely that the game will be played. It is unclear as of now when Minnesota might provide the next COVID update for the program.
