Ndamukong Suh was ready for Nebraska football to hire Scott Frost three years ago, but his recommendation went unheard he said in a recent interview.
The former Husker defensive tackle took a little time off from Los Angeles Rams training camp to appear on the Pardon My Take podcast where he was asked about Nebraska landing one of the most in-demand coaching candidates in the country.
"Great decision," Suh said. "I wanted it to happen three years ago."
Suh went on to say that he made that recommendation to then-Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst following the firing of Bo Pelini in December of 2014.
"[Eichorst] went on and made his own decisions," Suh said. "It put us back in our program."
Eichorst, of course, hired Mike Riley to replace Pelini. Nebraska went 19-19 in three seasons under Riley. Eichorst was fired in September 2017 following a home loss to Northern Illinois. Riley's departure followed at the end of the 2017 season, paving the way for Frost's return to Lincoln.
Pardon My Take co-host, Big Cat, noted during the interview that he is a Wisconsin alum and that Nebraska's hiring of Frost had him nervous as a Badgers fan. It led to perhaps the most entertaining exchange from a Husker fans' perspective.
"The fake Nebraska," Suh said of Wisconsin.
"Well, no, are you guys the fake Wisconsin now?" Big Cat said.
"No, never that," Suh said.
And last but not least, the landmark 2009 case of Suh v. McCoy, in which Suh repeatedly assaulted Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, all of it caught on tape, but was never charged. Suh was asked if the Longhorns should've gotten 1 second put back on the clock.
"They definitely shouldn't have had an opportunity to kick that field goal," Suh said. "Things happen for a reason. Still don't know what that particular reason is for that particular situation."
