The uniforms pay tribute to the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI. They also celebrate Memorial Stadium, specifically with the quote on the back of the uniform: “Not the victory but the action; Not the goal but the game; In the deed the glory.”
The quote was selected from the four inscribed on each corner of Memorial Stadium. Each communicate honor and glory for the state's fallen heroes, but the one selected is arguably the most famous with fans and the team.
The jerseys are similar to the 1923 Nebraska jerseys, including a throwback tonal, paneled front. The pant is also designed to resemble the first façade of Memorial Stadium, another characteristic of the uniforms Nebraska worn in 1923. The original clock in Memorial Stadium served as inspiration for the numbers and fonts used on the uniforms.
Memorial Stadium was originally named in honor of the more than 700 Nebraskans who died in WWI and those who served in the Civil War, Spanish-American Wars. It also honors Nebraskans who served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam and more.
Nebraska hosted its first game in Memorial Stadium on Oct. 20, 1923. This season marks the Huskers' 96th in the stadium.
