Current Forecast

The first game of the year is usually a hot one and this year is no different. The average high for the end of August in Champaign, Illinois, is 83 degrees and Saturday will be well above that.

With an area of exiting high pressure, not only will we see quite a bit of sun, but a southerly breeze as well. Those two things should push game time temperatures in to the upper 80s and lower 90s. Add in a dew point that will likely be in the upper 60s and maybe even the lower 70s and we’ll see a heat index in the middle and upper 90s.

Most of the day will be dry, but there’s a small disturbance that will try to spark isolated storms in the afternoon. That chance, however, is small.

Here is the hour-by-hour forecast:

  • Noon: Mostly sunny, 88 degrees, southwest wind at 5 to 15 mph.
  • 2 p.m.: Partly cloudy, small chance for an isolated storm, 90 degrees, southwest wind at 5 to 15 mph.
  • 4 p.m.: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy, 89 degrees, southwest wind at 5 to 15 mph.
