Nebraska-Northwestern 2020: Weather Trends for Evanston on Nov. 7

October 29, 2020

Forecast and updates brought to you by Rusty Dawkins of Husker Weather.

After a wild week, the Huskers are now looking toward their game with Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois, which is just north of Chicago. Located right on Lake Michigan, the weather there is very dependent on which way the wind blows.

The game versus Northwestern is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7 and November near Lake Michigan can bring in all kinds of different weather. The average high is in the lower 50s and the average low is in the middle 30s, but like Nebraska, the area rarely sees that average. In fact, the record high for Nov. 7 in Evanston is 75 and the record low is 13.

To get a sense for what it’s like in Evanston on Nov. 7, we can look back at the last several years and see what’s happened. For instance, Nov. 7, 2019 had a high of only 31 degrees and a low of 20. There was even a little snow, but not much. Only a tenth of an inch was recorded.  In 2018, Nov. 7 saw a high of 39 and a low of 33. Another chilly day. In 2017, however, it was a little warmer and saw a high of 45 with a low of 32. Still below average, though Nov. 7, 2016 was a really nice day. The low was 42 and the high was 66, which is almost 15 degrees above the average high. That would have been a pretty good day for football.

Snow, however, is hard to come by on Nov. 7 in Evanston. Over the last 20 years, the tenth of an inch of snow that fell last year is the only recorded snow to fall on Nov. 7 in the area to date.  The lack of snow does makes sense when you look at the month of November near Evanston and Chicago overall, which typically only sees about an inch of snow a year.
